Kindergarten students learned about different types of lines and listened to the story "Straight Line Wonder". They drew 3 horizontal and 3 vertical lines to create a wacky grid. Inside the grid they practiced different marker techniques like dots, thin lines, thick lines, squiggles, and textures. The next class students made a paper loom in the same color family (warm or cool) that they chose for the marker drawing. They wove their drawing into the loom to create a paper weaving. They also had to glue all of the ends down so the weaving would stay together. Here are some more students working on their weavings! Here are some finished projects!!
First students learned about evergreen trees and how to draw needles. They drew them into styrofoam to create a printing plate. Then we used white printing ink to create 4 copies of our evergreen needles onto construction paper that was folded in half. The next week, once the cards were dry, students cut out red cardinals to glue onto their cards.
Ms. Sutor's class finished up their portraits and there were so many excellent ones I just had to post some more!
6th graders used either their name or an affinity to create a 3D city. They used a vanishing point and one-point perspective to create the depth. They used sharpies, colored pencils, and crayons to finish them.
Check out the video from the menu on the left to try it for yourself! 5th graders used their initial to create illuminated letters. They learned about the elements of art and how to design without making it too complicated. They also learned about different fonts like roman, gothic, sanserif and italics.
http://www.illuminatedpage.com/history.html ![]() Third graders learned about the correct proportions of a face, then did a guided drawing using a grid. After the practice they drew one all by themselves without a grid. They also looked in mirrors to help make them look realistic. To color they used crayons and paid close attention to different textures. They even rubbed crayons over texture sheets to create the frame. First graders created leaves using oil pastel and watercolor. We looked at leaves and made sure we included veins in the drawing. They listened to the "Leaf Man" by Lois Ehlert and then created a collage of a figure using their painted leaves.
