Kindergarten is learning about shapes! We watched a video which you can find in the art videos section. First they practiced cutting out triangles, circles, and ovals. Then they layered rectangular strips of tissue paper on top. They had fun painting with the glue!

For the first class of the year students in 2nd through 6th grade shared their hopes and dreams for art. They created a monochromatic piece of art using mixed media. They had the options of construction paper, oil pastels, watercolor, colored pencils, crayon, marker, and yarn. Monochromatic- Using one color, or shades and tints of one color Mixed media- Using more than one art material. ![]() Some of the artwork was displayed in the hallway as a mural. We made lists as a class and shared our hopes and dreams before starting the project.
Students drew their family using on a light colored marker first. They had to draw all if the shapes to show who is taller and who is shorter. Once their whole family was draw they could use other colors to add details like clothing, accessories, hair color, and pets.
![]() Students learned how to sew a rainbow on burlap using a plastic needle. They also cut out a felt sun and added some puffy clouds. Students used their knowledge of shapes to create a printing plate. They made copies of it by rolling ink and pressing complementary colored paper on top. Students recalled all the projects that they did in the art room this year and illustrated them in an accordion style book.
2nd graders cut out a body in motion and added lots of details to show how the figure is moving. Some are dancing, playing sports, or performing karate.
Sixth grade painting challenge: There is an undeveloped piece of land in your community. What do you think should be there? What would be the most beneficial to the community? Students came up with a park, movie theater, mall, playground, airport, sports fields, graveyard, memorial, library, and many more ideas! Fourth graders pretended that they were on a ship looking through a porthole and discovered a new land. This is what the land looked like through the window. In progress... Finished projects!
We have spent many weeks stitching and sewing on burlap. Second graders learned the back stitch, couching stitch, satin stitch, and how to add beads if they wanted. They chose either a bug or a butterfly as their design. Here are some of the finished projects!
The Kindergarten classroom hatched ducks this month. In art we painted wiggly lines with blue watercolor and then learned how to cut out shapes of a duck. We glued the ducks on top so they look like they are swimming away in the water!
6th graders drew a special place and carved it out of linoleum. They printed it using brayers and many colors of ink and paper.
