Fifth graders created a very detailed non-objective piece of artwork that required many steps and applied the elements of art and design. First was watercolor. Students used techniques such as splattering, blending, painting with water first, dry brush and blowing on a puddle of paint. Second was to cut apart the watercolor and glue it back down onto a longer sheet of paper. Next the 5th graders reconnected their watercolor drawing with pen and ink lines. Then the added textures in the new spaces between the watercolor panels.

Sixth graders designed a vessel of exploration from either the past, present, or future. They used many collage technique such as tearing, revealing lines, hole punching, and layering. The tables may have been a mess while they were working, but it was worth it.
This week third graders continued a unit on China. We used what we learned about Chinese dragons to create 3 dimensional versions.
As third grade finishes up their unit on China, we created Chinese brush paintings of dragons. Students also had to design a personal logo for a styrofoam stamp, kind of like a Chinese chop. Fourth grade created an abstract winter portrait using mostly straight lines and marker techniques or watercolor pencils. Kindergarten has been working on many skills this quarter so far in art. Tearing paper, cutting paper, drawing patterns with markers, creating symmetry, and even sewing!
