Students are learning about the life cycle of the pumpkin in their classrooms. In art we mixed our own orange and green paint, then used the paper to collage a pumpkin patch. We also read "It Looked Like Spilt Milk" and stamped clouds that could look like other objects. A contour is the line which defines a form or edge much like an outline. Contour drawing is following the visible edges of a shape. It shows the outermost edges of a form and dramatic changes within the form. You must draw very slowly and look closely at what you are drawing. Blind contour is drawing done without looking at the paper. 6th graders gave it a try this week using still life objects. They even tried a blind contour face looking at a classmate.
![]() 2nd graders learned about American painter Grant Wood and were inspired by his famous painting "American Gothic" to draw a portrait with a friend. They had to draw people that overlap, so that one person is slightly covering the other. There are also at least 5 clues as to who the people are. The first step was to draw light until you get it right with pencil, then they outlined with marker, and lastly used many crayon techniques to color. The art room would love donations of the following:
Colored plastic bottle caps (not clear) Large 32oz yogurt containers Clorox wipes Tissues Used calendars (sports figures, flowers, landscapes, animals) |
